Public Art: The Source

JPG Heidi Bucher The Source 1987 installation view Zurich Meets Seoul Ewha Womens University

Swiss artist Heidi Bucher (1926–1993) has created a highly inventive sculptural work that is based on the molding of buildings’ façade with the intermediary of latex. She eternalizes the memory of this often vanished sites and makes them palpable for future generations. In her sculpture The Source, a vase appears to be floating high in the air with a cascade of latex ‘water’ flowing from its spout. Bucher creates a contradictory depiction of water as a source of life by staging its artificiality as if it were a prop for a magic trick.
